Geraint Evans- BA Hons (oxon), ACA
Geraint joined the F E Metcalfe & Co in 2008, becoming a Director in April 2009 and the Managing Director from April 2012.
Geraint qualified as a chartered accountant in 1998 with PricewaterhouseCoopers. During ten years working in the London Practice of the PwC audit and business advisory services department Geraint worked with a wide range of clients including start-up operations, owner-managed businesses and listed plc’s.
Geraint moved to North Yorkshire in 2004 and joined the finance department of Turner and Townsend LLP as the International Finance Director. Geraint was responsible for managing finance departments in eight countries, advising on the purchase of new businesses, integrating newly acquired businesses, managing the corporate tax structure of the international business and co-ordinating income tax advice to the 35 equity partners of the LLP. Geraint gained valuable experience understanding the requirements that businesses have of their accountants and tax advisors.
Since 2008 Geraint has developed strong working relationships with his clients, supporting clients by using his breath of commercial experience to help them better understand the financial performance of their business, reviewing the business structure for tax efficiency and planning for the future by understanding his clients longer term objectives. Geraint enjoys providing hands on support to startup businesses and existing businesses as they restructure and grow.
Geraint has developed a wide range of experience of income tax, corporation tax, inheritance tax and capital gains tax and the interaction between these taxes, believing that clients appreciate rounded advice on all aspects of tax that impact their business and personal finances. Geraint advises a diverse client portfolio which includes large corporates, high net worth private clients, trusts and landed estates. Following the Autumn 2024 budget Geraint has been involved in reviewing the inheritance tax position of a number of clients, working closely with legal and financial advisors to understand personal and tax objectives to advise on options to reduce inheritance tax.
Geraint believes that working in a positive collaboration with other professional advisors is an essential part of effectively supporting his clients and as a result has developed a wide ranging network of professional advisors, financial advisors and providers of finance that can be introduced to help support his clients.
A Sports enthusiast Geraint also enjoys reading historical books, walking, gardening and celebrating the occasional Welsh rugby win.
Paula Muxlow
Paula joined F E Metcalfe & Co in 1984 and has gained a wealth of practical accounting experience through working closely with Fred Metcalfe and advising clients for over 40 years. Paula was appointed a director of F E Metcalfe & Co in 2012.
Paula advises a varied and wide range of owner managed businesses including sole traders, partnerships and corporate clients on all areas of taxation, VAT, payroll and business planning. Paula has supported these clients with continuity of service and provides proactive advice throughout the year
Paula has particular experience with agricultural clients and understanding their tax issues.
As a result of years of practical experience of accounts preparation and assisting clients with developing their book keeping systems Paula has developed an in depth understanding of a range of accounts software packages and can advise clients on selecting the most appropriate accounts software package and how these can be tailored to meet the needs of the business.
Paula also has current responsibility for the management of our high calibre and long serving staff. Paula has set high expectations for the quality of accounts preparation and business taxation work in the practice and ensures that these standards are maintained on a day to day basis.
Monica Doherty - BA Hons FCA
Monica graduated from the University of Ulster with a BA in Accounting before qualifying as a chartered accountant in Liverpool in 2001.
Having moved to North Yorkshire, Monica worked for Garbutt and Elliott LLP (now Azets) n York for a number of years specialising in advising solicitors and other professional practice clients.
Monica joined F E Metcalfe & Co in September 2011, becoming a director in 2014.
She now looks after a very varied portfolio of clients alongside managing the cloud software offerings to clients. Her portfolio includes both longstanding clients and more recent additions to F E Metcalfe & Co. Monica takes a hands on approach to supporting her clients in respect of initial set up of the business including advising on accounting systems, and the ongoing development of individual businesses.
Over the last 25 years in practice Monica has gained much experience which supports her clients through various issues and tax planning. Monica looks after a wide mix of clients across various industries alongside the personal tax of the business owners. Whilst supporting her current clients Monica is always keen to talk to new businesses and individuals seeking a proactive advisor.
